After some pruning advice yesterday and the purchase of a pruning saw this morning, we headed to the plot to do at least some pruning – and ended up doing the whole lot.

The apple tree has had a number of branches completely removed and long branches have been cut back pretty firmly. With luck, it won’t go mad and shoot forth another foot of new growth. If necessary, I’ll give it some summer pruning to try and slow it. Before the earth dries up too much, I also need to try and get the tree stood up better with the stake possibly relocated.

We took out some long pieces on the pear tree. That lower branch has been used in photography in recent years, but this may be its last year, as it comes off the trunk on the left and curls around.
